President’s Reflections

The years 2022–2024 were about rebuilding and reconnecting. Malaysia continued to navigate the aftershocks of COVID-19, while globally the Russia-Ukraine war, climate extremes, and economic turbulence shaped a challenging context.

It was also a period of transition within the Commonwealth. We joined in mourning the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, whose steadfast service defined an era, and celebrated the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, marking continuity and renewal.

We found ways to come together through fellowship and leadership programmes across Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, and Kuching. Our Executive Committee and members gave their time, energy, and heart, while partnerships with High Commissions, universities, associates, and civil society brought fresh perspectives and new opportunities.

The highlight of the term was the participation of twelve Malaysians in the Commonwealth Study Conference (CSC) Canada 2023, joining 300 emerging leaders in a unique experiential journey. Their presence affirmed Malaysia’s voice in shaping conversations across the Commonwealth. We also connected with the wider CSC community at Buckingham Palace in 2024, fostering collaboration.
